AdAware is really good. You can download it for free.
I like to use Adaware SE Personal and Spybot Search and Destroy. Been using them for a few years now and have had good luck with them. All my friends and family run these programs on thier computer and have had good luck as well.
In addition to adaware %26 spybot s%26d there's also ewido %26 avg for antiviral infections but I always throw in spywareblaster too, all of which can be found on majorgeeks.com
Adaware and spybot search and destroy are both very good and free. You should really put both of them on and use them both (keep them updated and use the immunize function in spybot!) because 1 may find something that the other may not catch. 1 program won't find everything.
Webroot Spyware is GREAT but the trial is for only for 1 or 3 months, afterwards you have to buy the thing. but its good.

I use a three-pronged approach. AdAware (as listed above), as well as Spybot (Search %26 Destroy), which catches some things AdAware doesn't and has a built in blocker to keep it out for good, and Spywareblaster, which is purely a blocker.

Use Mozilla Firefox with the pop-up blocker. It is even better than IE, though some sites don't allow.

Scan your computer with Spybot and Ad-aware.

Since no single anti-spyware program can detect and eradicate all spyware. It is best to use more than one program, I recommend using Ad-aware and Spybot which are among the best (they are free). Other top rated free anti-spyware programs are Super anti-spyware and AVG anti-spyware (formally Ewido).

Webroot Spy Sweeper is the best but it's not free (see the consumer source source for more information).

Running these programs in Safe Mode (tap F8 after powering on the computer and choose to boot to Safe Mode) can be more effective.

If you do not have an updated anti-virus program always running, you need to get one. Install only 1, but you can get AVG, Avast! or AntiVir for free.

I also recommend using Firefox as your Internet browser. It's safer, better and more secure.
