You said you tried Ad-Aware 2007, and "that didn't help." Help with what? Popup ads? For that you need a popup blocker. And if Ad-Aware 2007 won't help your problem, then I don't know what to else to offer. It's the best there is right now.

i would suggest Norton Anti virus 2007 or microsoft defender but if that doesn't work then save every file that u really need on to a disk or floppy disk (scan each item first cuz one of those files could be the problem) and ask the computer store u got it from to wipe everything from it apart from the basic icons it's either that or more damage to ur folders and someone might be watching u (e.g. keyloggers)

first off, you got the wrong program if you got adware remover. Lavasoft does not make that one.
Lavasofts product is "Ad-aware".
You got a promo program that itself is not very good, but is trying to sell their product virtues by having a named product close to the "good one". You got to watch and read closely. So, uninstall this program by going to control panel/ then add/remove programs - find it and remove it. Then in the address bar type http://www.adaware.com and it will take you to the lavasoft site and the product. You are looking for the free product to download.
Uninstall the program as it sounds like it is corrupted and then reinstall again.

It sounds like the uninstallation process was interrupted or damaged so it left some components behind.
I recommend that you install the program again then uninstall it again.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

I have cable connection,I have zonealarm basic, win xp sp2, which I guess is a bootleg copy, go figure, and I am having alot of trouble with security pop-ups and crawling speed most of the time. I use system mechanic 6 (SIX). The newest version is 7 and they are having problems with it. I really recommend 6 though. It is a all over good program. Virus protection, spyware protection, etc.

Hi, If you are one who clicks on a lot of things that you are not sure of and download a lot of things that are unknown to you, NONE of the anti virus and anti spy ware softwares are going to protect you well. Smart surfing is the real key to safety.
To start with none of them are perfect so the logical choice is the most economical. You already stated you installed Avast, right? I use that and I am un infected. I have had it come up with "caution, a virus has been detected" but it handles it.
I also use Spy Bot S%26D along with Advanced Windows Care Free Personal Edition.
All of these are free and very effective. If you wish, I could advise you on the proper way to install and run these softwares as well as the most effective windows settings to make your computer run well and stay safe.

I suggest you download Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S%26D (they鈥檙e free), install them, update them and run them. If they don't seem to be able to get rid of everything they report finding, try running them again, this time in Safe Mode.
Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.
To get into Safe Mode:
1.Log out and reboot your machine.
2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key
3.Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.
4.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance. You may have to log in as Administrator to delete the bad files.
5.When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.
Update and run both regularly, along with a good anti-virus package.

Ad-aware is the very best simple to use and effective. I have been using upgraded versions of it for 3 years and never had an issue with it. I even tried the Mcafee one and ad-aware found stuff it could not.

There are two ways to answer this question. One is based on what various users/labs say is the best. The other way to answer the question is to say what is the one YOU are most likely to use. The answers can differ.
Two good products have been mentioned in the previous answers being SpyBot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware. There is no harm running multiple spyware programs unlike some issues you run into with multiple anti-virus scanners. Spybot also has an 'immunize' feature.
All are free, many professionals use them and they won't ask you for money (Except for a donations link on their websites)
