It is better than AVG or Avast.

Look at the numbers in these tests:

(these are comparing the paid versions of all the free programs, but you get the idea), especially comparing Avira to AVG, then tell me which you think is better.

To remove spyware, and protect against it, install Spyware Terminator (http://www.spywareterminator.com/ ), which is better than Windows Defender (only use one at a time) alongside Avira.

The best firewall in the world, although not strictly necessary, is Comodo (http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ ). Turn Defense+ off if you don't want to get too many alerts.
